Sunny Bunny X

Crochet Stuffed Animal 24″ Tall
Featured in March/April 2009 Creative Home Arts Club Magazine
Designed by Deb Richey

First off I think Bunny X is larger than 24″ – more like 26-28″. The direction in the magazine for the legs are not entirely correct as an Email correspondence  proved.
Supplies:
* 6 skeins of yarn (I used multi-colored instead of multiple colors, that way no need to change during crocheting.
*Size G-6 crochet hook
*A stitch marker – since you are crocheting in rounds -  I used a paperclip
*Polyester fiberfill
*6 1 1/4″ buttons – for connecting Ears/Legs/Arms Plus two for the eyes
*6″ upholstery needle and Size 10 Crocheting yarn, for connecting the arms/legs
This was a lot of fun to make, although I felt like Dr. Frankenstein collecting body parts. Huge body parts! There were a few Ah-Hah! moments, well for someone who hasn’t crocheted in a long time, as the directions began to make sense as Bunny X progressed. The individual body parts work up quickly, but do pay attention to your counting because of all the increases – decreases.
The body parts can be just sewn onto the body, but then Bunny X is not as easy to pose . Eyelashes were added using eyelash yarn, and a final touch of a ribbon around the neck.
Bunny X will remain unnamed until our granddaughter receives it and gives it a name.

Quilt Finishing

Quilt Finishing Services & Costs

A small survey

While digging around on the internet the other day i came across a “Quilting Services” site, and being curious I went to it to see what was offered. It turned out the shop was local, to me.
I decided to see what other offerings there were on the web. When I “Googled” I found 10,000 plus listings, so like other Quilting sites there are endless choices!
I decided to do a very small comparative sampling to see what services and prices where out there, not that I would ever use them – being a bit of a purist, I hand Quilt and so does my wife. Here is what i found. My Basic prices are based on 80″X96″ Quilt.

Site A – in VT. Minimum charge $30.                   My basic $111
Various $/sq inch – based on quilt size
Binding .11/linear ft.
Batting from $4-25/yd.
Ironing $25
Extra for Custom Quilting and other specials
Site B – in NE. Minimum charge $40.                 My Basic $108
One price $.014/sq inch
Extra for Custom Quilting and other specials
Site C – in MN. Minimum charge $50                 My Basic $117
One price $.015/sq inch
Binding $.05 or $.25 depending on how it was done
Batting $.16-.46/linear inch depending on type
Backing $4.80-9.40/yd.
Extra for Custom Quilting and other specials
Site D – in TX. Minimum charge $?                       My basic ?
Have to contact them for pricing
Site E – in OH. Minimum charge $?                      My basic $102-137
Various prices based on size
Binding various on size
Extra for Custom Quilting and other specials

( Sites B-E were in the top 40 listed on Google (Quilting Services), Site A I just ran across while looking up my site on Quilting)

They all had some variety as to what services they offered, so hard to compare – apples to apples, but as you can see you would spend about the same for a 6′ 6” X 8 ‘ quilt to have it finished off. For me if I where to use a service to finish my quilt I would go with the local shop since it’s only 30-40 minute drive from my house. Thinking about this a little more makes me realize just what a good hand made Quilt in worth in $$$$, and to that the intrinsics of it being a specially hand made item and the joy of making it, no wonder it is still has such a huge participation in the craft. Quilt on!
